BIID organises its relations with financial partners on the basis of their mandates, their capacity to intervene and the characteristics of the operations to be structured. It identifies their sectors and geographical areas of interest, the instruments that can be mobilised, commitment thresholds, the acceptable risk profile, impact requirements and due diligence procedures, in order to establish cooperation frameworks that are compatible with the projects’ needs.

Partnerships structured around operations
BIID works with development banks, donors and agencies, commercial banks, investment funds, institutional investors, sovereign wealth funds, foundations, guarantee and insurance organisations, as well as technical partners. It organises their involvement according to the nature of the operation and the responsibilities likely to be assumed by each party, whether in the form of debt, equity, guarantees, technical assistance, co-financing, blended finance or other appropriate mechanisms.
Cooperation may also take the form of joint project origination, dedicated sectoral or regional programmes, co-financing arrangements, investment vehicles, technical partnerships or project preparation mechanisms. BIID then acts as the link between the partner’s criteria, the identified opportunities, the project promoters, the relevant authorities and the other stakeholders involved in the operation.

BIID structures the information, oversees access to authorised files, facilitates due diligence, coordinates exchanges and monitors expressions of interest, decisions and commitments, in accordance with the applicable confidentiality rules.
Each partner retains full responsibility for its own analyses, approval procedures and commitment decisions. For its part, the BIID ensures that the financial mandate, the project, the instruments, the risks and the implementation conditions are properly aligned.
